Antitrust Watchdogs Waged More Merger Fights In 2012

Law360, New York (May 1, 2013, 8:15 PM EDT) -- The number of merger filings federal antitrust enforcers received dipped slightly in 2012, but the share of deals that received early clearance grew, as did the number of merger challenges, according to data released Monday.

The U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission saw almost as many merger notifications in the 2012 fiscal year as in 2011. Only 21 fewer deals crossed agency desks in 2012, down slightly from the high of 1,450 the regulators hit in 2011, after recovering from a precipitous drop...
