GenOn Pays $2M To Settle Coal Pollution Claims

Law360, New York (May 2, 2013, 2:20 PM EDT) -- GenOn Maryland Ash Management LLC on Wednesday agreed to pay $1.9 million to resolve the Maryland Department of the Environment's claims that GenOn violated state and federal water pollution laws and regulations at three fly ash disposal sites in the state.

GenOn denied any liability but agreed to the deal, which includes paying $1.9 million in penalties, installing pollution controls and working with the department to examine nearby drinking water wells.
