D-Day Arrives In Florida Tobacco Litigation

Law360, New York (January 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The $145 billion verdict may have been tossed out but tobacco giants like R.J. Reynolds & Co. are now bracing themselves for an onslaught of individual suits over cigarette manufacturers' alleged negligence and sale of defective products in Florida.

The Florida Supreme Court decreed Jan. 11, 2008 as the last day for individuals to file suit against the defendants after nullifying a $145 billion punitive damages award in the Engle class action case against the tobacco industry.
