R.I. Locals Win A Round In Toxic Tort V. Utility

Law360, New York (January 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A group of Rhode Island residents suing New England Gas Co. for allegedly contaminating their homes with hazardous waste have won a bid to sever the third-party claims of the utility, which blames others for the damage and is seeking indemnity.

The Rhode Island district court issued its order Wednesday, granting a motion by lawyers for the 120 Tiverton residents to have New England's claims, against seven other companies and two municipalities, tried separately from their four consolidated cases.
