Patent Attorney Appeals Case Over "Gross Negligence"

Law360, New York (November 1, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- A patent attorney, suspended from the USPTO for gross negligence, has appealed his case to the Federal Circuit more than ten years after allegations of misconduct triggered a drawn-out federal lawsuit.

Attorney John Halvonik, who is representing himself in the matter, sued the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in April 1999 after receiving a seven-month suspension from a USPTO administrative law judge (ALJ). The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
