Microsoft Faces Two Fresh Probes In EU

Law360, New York (January 14, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Microsoft Corp. got slammed with two new antitrust probes from the European Commission on Monday, as regulators announced fresh investigations into the software giant's alleged anti-competitive practices.

The commission is looking into whether the company has illegally restricted competitors from creating products compatible with software such as Microsoft's Office suite. The commission is also investigating whether Microsoft unlawfully tied the Internet Explorer browser into the Windows operating system, thereby potentially blocking rivals from competing.
