Chief Justice Drops Out Of Landmark Patent Case

Law360 (November 3, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a surprising move, Chief Justice John Roberts has recused himself from one of the most closely followed patent cases to reach the Supreme Court, admitting he made a mistake in taking part in the early stages of the appeal.

According to an order released late Wednesday, Roberts has withdrawn from the case, which patent attorneys agree could redefine the scope of business method patents in the United States.
