Canadian Govt. Hit With Suit Over Oil Refinery Review

Law360, New York (January 14, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Environmental groups are suing the Canadian federal government in an attempt to push it to do a full impact assessment of Irving Oil Ltd.'s roughly $6.9 billion proposed refinery project in the New Brunswick province.

Launched by the legal defense fund Ecojustice on behalf of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick's Fundy Baykeeper and Friends of the Earth Canada, the lawsuit accuses Canada's Environmental Minister John Baird of being too lax with Irving Oil.
