Century 21 Joins 8 Others In Blitz Of Gender Tariff Suits

Law360, New York (May 10, 2013, 5:39 PM EDT) -- Century 21 has relaunched its bid to halt purportedly unconstitutional gender- and age-specific tariffs on apparel and shoe imports, joining eight importers who on Friday became the latest companies to argue that the duties are tantamount to discrimination.

The discount retailer’s complaint, filed before the U.S. Court of International Trade on Thursday, argues that sex- and age-based tariffs violate the U.S. Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause and the due process clause of the Fifth Amendment.
