Robotic Surgery Part May Burn Patients, Intuitive Warns

Law360, New York (May 10, 2013, 5:55 PM EDT) -- Intuitive Surgical Inc. warned hospitals on Wednesday that a part used in its da Vinci robotic surgical system, a device targeted in personal injury lawsuits across the country, may crack and put patients at risk of burn injuries.

The company sent an urgent notification to its customers that some versions of its EndoWrist Monopolar Curved Scissors instruments, also known as Hot Shears, may develop tiny cracks at one end and expose patients to electric current. The cracks may not be visible, it said.
