Pa. Lawmaker To Float Broad Anti-SLAPP Legislation

Law360, Philadelphia (May 16, 2013, 6:16 PM EDT) -- Pennsylvania Sen. Larry Farnese, D-Philadelphia, announced Thursday that he is introducing a bill to prevent strategic lawsuits against public participation, which is known in the 27 other states that have similar laws on the books as anti-SLAPP legislation.

Farnese said that these suits are filed against individuals or groups for positions that they take in questions of public interest. The suits aim to deter individuals from raising their voices by burdening them with the costs of defending themselves.
