Herbalife Preys On Latinos, Nonprofit Tells FTC

Law360, New York (May 21, 2013, 5:43 PM EDT) -- A nonprofit on Monday urged the Federal Trade Commission to investigate Herbalife Ltd., claiming its vitamin distribution network — famously called the world’s “best-managed pyramid scheme” by activist investor Bill Ackman — preys on Latinos.

The Hispanic Federation said the company’s marketing materials promise “club members” a get-rich-quick scheme that fails to materialize. 

“You can imagine that for immigrants, particularly those who are underemployed or have no papers, this promise can seem like their ticket to achieving the American dream,” the group said.
