Marine Harvest Mulls Hiking $1.7B Buyout Bid For Cermaq

Law360, New York (May 21, 2013, 12:34 PM EDT) -- Norwegian fish farmer Marine Harvest ASA confirmed Tuesday that it would consider raising its $1.7 billion bid for rival Cermaq ASA if the target company scraps plans to pick up a Peruvian fish meal manufacturer through an acquisition of its own.

The announcement came after Cermaq fell short in a shareholder vote on its proposed $600 million purchase of Copeinca ASA. The holders of more than half of the would-be buyer's shares signed off on the terms, but Cermaq needed to meet a two-thirds approval threshold....
