Senate Panel Advances Drug Compounder Oversight Bill

Law360, Washington (May 22, 2013, 2:05 PM EDT) -- A U.S. Senate committee unanimously voted Wednesday to advance legislation that places the U.S. Food and Drug Administration solely in charge of regulating compounding pharmacies and also paves the way for added drug security along the supply chain.

The Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions Committee merged the Pharmaceutical Compounding Quality and Accountability Act with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act before sending the combined bill to the full Senate, claiming their bipartisan work could help ensure the safety of the nation’s drug supply.
