Brookfield Closes $163M Hostile Deal For Western Wind

Law360, New York (May 22, 2013, 2:54 PM EDT) -- Canada's Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP acquired the last of Western Wind Energy Corp.'s stock on Tuesday, squeezing out the remaining minority holders and closing out a $163 million hostile takeover that began last summer.

Brookfield, one of Canada's biggest owners of wind and solar power, closed out the deal after chugging its way to 91 percent of Western Wind's shares in a slow-motion tender offer that was opposed at every step by the struggling wind farm operator.
