Vt. Hits Patent Troll With Consumer Protection Suit

Law360, New York (May 22, 2013, 4:08 PM EDT) -- Vermont's attorney general on Wednesday said it had sued a so-called patent troll for violating the state's consumer protection laws, a case the state said was the first of its kind.

Attorney General Bill Sorrell lodged a complaint that says MPHJ Technology Investments LLC breached Vermont's Consumer Protection Act by sending letters to small businesses demanding payment for alleged infringement of the company's patents for scanning documents and attaching them to email.
