Senators Float Bill To Fight Gasoline Price Spikes

Law360, New York (May 24, 2013, 2:08 PM EDT) -- Minnesota's two U.S. senators on Thursday introduced legislation that would require oil refineries to report their maintenance schedule to the U.S. Energy Department in order to prevent simultaneous closures, which they claim is driving up gasoline prices in the Midwest.

After the closure of several Midwest oil refineries for maintenance over the last few weeks, gas prices have surged to more than $4 a gallon in Minnesota, according to Sens. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn. and Al Franken, D-Minn.
