House GOP Drafts Bill To Overhaul Medicare Doc Payments

Law360, New York (May 28, 2013, 2:29 PM EDT) -- House Republicans on Tuesday unveiled draft legislation to overhaul Medicare’s much-maligned physician payment formula, opting to leave the nation’s costly fee-for-service system intact but aiming to reform it by making quality of care a factor in reimbursements.

The proposed bill from leaders of the Energy and Commerce Committee targets the so-called sustainable growth rate and would direct the U.S. Health and Human Services Department to develop specialty-specific metrics for gauging a doctor’s quality of care.
