Insurer Battles LA Schools Over $30M Sex Abuse Deal

Law360, New York (May 30, 2013, 7:05 PM EDT) -- Everest National Insurance sued the Los Angeles Unified School District and six of its insurers Wednesday to avoid covering hundreds of claims of "lewd conduct" at an elementary school, some of which have been settled for $30 million.

The insurer asked a Los Angeles state court to rule that the school district isn't owed coverage under its five $10 million policies because the district hasn't satisfied its self-insurance retention, which ranges from $3 million to $5 million for each year, according to the complaint.
