New House Bill Would Expand Offshore Drilling

Law360, New York (May 30, 2013, 3:31 PM EDT) -- House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings, R-Wash., introduced legislation Thursday that would expand offshore oil and gas drilling to both Atlantic and Pacific coastal areas, as well as force the U.S. Department of the Interior to hold offshore lease sales that were delayed or eventually canceled.

The draft bill would force the Obama administration to submit a new five-year offshore leasing plan by 2015 that would include lease sales in areas that contain at least 2.5 billion barrels of oil or 7.5 trillion cubic feet...
