British Columbia Opposes $5.5B Enbridge Pipeline Project

Law360, New York (May 31, 2013, 7:18 PM EDT) -- British Columbia's provincial government has officially come out in opposition to Enbridge Inc.'s proposed $5.5 billion Northern Gateway pipeline project, saying Friday that the energy firm's latest project plan does not address the government's environmental concerns.

The government said in a written submission to the Canadian panel reviewing the proposed development that the Calgary-based oil and gas firm failed at a recent hearing to respond adequately to questions about its route, spill response capacity and disaster remediation financial plan.
