GAO Report Pushes Global Standard for Biofuel

Law360, New York (January 22, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A report issued by the Government Accountability Office says a global standard for biofuel is needed in order to promote trade and avoid fuel price hikes in the United States.

In a report released Friday, the government watchdog said plans in the U.S. and other countries to expand the use of biofuels, like ethanol or biodiesel, blended with petroleum products may result in declining opportunities for trade if global standards are not put in place early.
