Dems Blast Plan To Give Obama Fast-Track Trade Powers

Law360, New York (June 12, 2013, 4:35 PM EDT) -- Three dozen House Democrats on Friday announced their opposition to granting so-called fast-track authority to the Obama administration as it negotiates a planned Asia-Pacific free trade pact, saying they want to maintain oversight of any eventual deal.

In a letter to the House trade subcommittee, Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wis., and 35 other Democrats voiced their “serious concerns” with the prospect of fast-tracking, which gives the executive branch the power to negotiate trade deals that Congress can approve or disapprove but can't amend.
