Low Interest Rates A Hurdle For Recovering Insurers: Report

Law360, Chicago (June 12, 2013, 4:43 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Treasury Department's Federal Insurance Office issued its first annual report Wednesday to the president and Congress, saying that domestic insurers' financial performance has continued to rebound from the financial crisis but that low interest rates and natural disasters have posed challenges to the industry.

The report is the FIO's first since the office was established by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which authorized it to monitor the insurance sector and represent the U.S. in international insurance matters. The statute, signed...
