CMS Presses Congress To Prioritize Medicare Pay Reform

Law360, Washington (June 14, 2013, 4:25 PM EDT) -- The director of the Center for Medicare urged lawmakers Friday to give high priority to sorely needed Medicare payment reform, and endorsed an incident-based rather than a treatment-based pay system.

Higher Medicare payments for recuperation and rehabilitation services have not been linked to higher-quality treatments or fewer hospital readmissions, Center for Medicare director Jonathan Blum told the House Ways and Means' health subcommittee.
