German Court Sides With Medtronic In Heart Valve Patent Row

Law360, Los Angeles (June 14, 2013, 7:40 PM EDT) -- A German judge ruled on Friday that Medtronic Inc. isn't infringing one of Edwards Lifesciences Corp.'s patents for transcatheter heart valve technology, denying Edwards' attempt to prevent the manufacture and sale of Medtronic's CoreValve device in Germany, the parties said Friday.

The decision pertained to Edwards' patent for its Cribier technology, which is designed to treat patients with severe aortic heart valve stenosis by threading a replacement heart valve via a catheter through the patient’s circulatory system, according to the company's website.
