Sens. Push For Medicare Transparency Via Claims Database

Law360, Washington (June 19, 2013, 2:58 PM EDT) -- Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Ron Wyden, D-Ore., banded together Tuesday to introduce legislation that would open up all Medicare claims to public scrutiny, claiming that additional Medicare claims transparency could curb wasteful overspending.

Combining their efforts, the senators' proposed bill — the Medicare Data Access for Transparency and Accountability Act — seeks to create a free Medicare claims database that would open to the public, much like USASpending.gov.
