States Can Tweak ACA Health Exchange Applications

Law360, New York (June 20, 2013, 3:02 PM EDT) -- The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued guidance Tuesday giving states more flexibility in designing alternative applications to the agency's model application that enrollees must submit for health plans sold in Affordable Care Act health insurance exchanges.

The added flexibility for states comes almost two months after CMS released a single, streamlined application meant to serve as the sole application used by the federally facilitated Health Insurance Marketplace, state Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program agencies starting Oct. 1.
