House Rejects $940B Farm Bill Upon Food Stamp Amendment

Law360, New York (June 20, 2013, 6:47 PM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday voted down its version of a five-year, $940 billion farm bill after House Republicans amended the legislation to add new work requirements for citizens receiving food stamps.

In a 195-235 vote, the House voted down H.R. 1947, known as the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013, in a surprise blow to Republicans’ bid to pass a law that historically has seen bipartisan support.
