Hospital Group Wants Uninsured Payment Rule Tweaked

Law360, New York (June 21, 2013, 2:30 PM EDT) -- The American Hospital Association asked the federal government Thursday to revise a proposed rule that would reduce Medicare payments to hospitals treating a large number of uninsured in-patients, saying the proposal may lead to unintentional payment cuts for certain hospitals.

The trade group representing more than 5,000 hospitals said in a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that the rule designed to reduce Medicare payments to so-called disproportionate share providers may not pay hospitals accurately and may unintentionally impose inordinate cuts on community...
