EU Governments Back Tobacco Restrictions, With Caveats

Law360, New York (June 21, 2013, 7:28 PM EDT) -- Government officials from EU countries endorsed portions of the European Commission's proposed new restrictions on tobacco products on Friday, though they want the products' packaging to carry smaller health warnings than envisioned by the commission.

A group of ministers from the EU's 27 countries backed a ban on cigarettes with menthol and other flavors and potentially misleading labels such as “natural” or “organic,” both elements of the proposal issued by the commission in December.
