FERC Commissioner Seeks Congress' Help On Cybersecurity

Law360, Washington (June 21, 2013, 3:25 PM EDT) -- A Federal Energy Regulatory Commissioner on Friday called on Congress to address electricity grid cybersecurity issues, claiming energy regulators cannot manage cybersecurity concerns under current standard-setting procedures and need guidance on the chain of command during emergency situations.

While FERC Commissioner John R. Norris maintained energy regulators don't need additional legislation guidance on electric reliability issues, he said there was a real need for congressional input on cybersecurity matters, as the current regulatory scheme can't keep up with the fast-paced changes in that field.
