Long-Term Hospitals Decry Medicare Referral Limits

Law360, New York (June 25, 2013, 4:03 PM EDT) -- Hospitals specializing in long-term care are urging Medicare to again delay a new policy capping referrals of patients from traditional hospitals, saying the limits will harm providers in smaller communities and should be replaced with a formula that takes patient health into account.

The complaints, which were filed in response to a proposed rule whose comment period ended Tuesday, came from long-term care hospitals in at least six states and appeared to reflect a coordinated effort, given the highly similar language of the letters. They come...
