Product Safety Initiative Should Go Global: FDA

Law360 (January 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration may be going global in an effort to improve the safety of imported foods and medicines after the year's string of high-profile recalls called into question the protections exporting countries have in place.

Dr. Andrew Von Eschenbach, FDA commissioner, said Thursday that his agency was considering opening satellite offices in U.S. embassies overseas in an attempt to regulate products crossing U.S. borders.
