Duke Gets Air Permit For Coal Gasification Plant

Law360, New York (January 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Duke Energy said Friday that Indiana state regulators had approved the air permit for its proposed 630-megawatt coal gasification power plant, paving the way for construction to begin in less than two weeks.

The $2 billion plant, to be built at Edwardsport Station in southwest Indiana, will replace four older Duke units that are capable of generating a combined 160 megawatts.

It will be the first facility in the United States to use coal gasification technology on a large scale, according to the company.
