France Will Help India Move Toward Nuclear Power

Law360, New York (January 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a move that paves the way for nuclear power cooperation, India and France on Friday signed off on the framework of an accord to collaborate on research for the supply of reactors as soon as India is able to enter the global atomic energy market.

The deal, which came during French President Nicolas Sarkozy's visit to India last week, cannot go into effect until India agrees to a safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency and obtains a waiver from the Nuclear Suppliers' Group...
