Pa. Senate OKs Replacement For Convicted High Court Justice

Law360, New York (July 1, 2013, 3:22 PM EDT) -- The Pennsylvania Senate on Sunday unanimously confirmed Justice Correale Stevens to serve on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, filling the seat left vacant by ex-Justice Joan Orie Melvin, who resigned in May following her February corruption conviction.

In a 50-0 vote, the state Senate confirmed Gov. Tom Corbett’s nomination of Stevens, who most recently was president judge of the Pennsylvania Superior Court, an appeals court, to the state’s high court, garnering praise and sweeping support from lawmakers and the legal community. Stevens will be sworn in later this...
