NY Appellate Judge Disciplined For Misleading Missive

Law360, New York (July 1, 2013, 3:48 PM EDT) -- In its first-ever move to discipline an appellate-level jurist, New York's Commission on Judicial Conduct on Friday admonished Judge Nancy E. Smith for a letter she penned on behalf of an inmate applying for parole that falsely claimed the inmate was a personal friend of hers.

The New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct issued the determination admonishing Judge Smith, who sits on a mid-level appellate court in Rochester, over the unsolicited letter she wrote in January 2011 on her official letterhead.
