AHA Seeks Changes To CMS Accreditation Overhaul Rule

Law360, New York (July 3, 2013, 1:17 PM EDT) -- The American Hospital Association on Tuesday urged the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services not to finalize its proposed rule increasing regulatory oversight for organizations that certify health care providers as eligible to bill for services until it makes several adjustments, saying the rule is too prescriptive.

In a letter addressed to CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner, made public Tuesday, the AHA praised the agency's intention to update its regulations for so-called national accrediting organizations, or AOs, and ensure patients receive safe, high-quality care.
