DOI Blocks New Mining On Land Tabbed For Solar Projects

Law360, New York (July 8, 2013, 3:30 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Interior Department on Friday said that it has walled off more than 300,000 acres of federal land in six western states from new mining claims — land that the agency has earmarked for future solar energy development.

The DOI’s Bureau of Land Management said it had approved a so-called public land order that withdrew 303,900 acres of land in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah from the location of new mining claims that could impede development of solar energy sites. The sites...
