State Exchanges Won't Have To Verify Consumer Eligibility

Law360, New York (July 8, 2013, 5:39 PM EDT) -- The Obama administration Friday delayed until 2015 an Affordable Care Act requirement for state health insurance exchanges to verify that consumers are eligible for subsidies to buy coverage, citing a lack of technological capabilities.

The postponement applies to income and insurance information supplied by Americans shopping for coverage on the 17 state-based exchanges that will debut Oct. 1. Federal exchanges opening at the same time will still conduct verification, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said.
