Boston Univ. Hits Apple With Semiconductor Patent Suit

Law360, New York (July 8, 2013, 2:25 PM EDT) -- Boston University trustees have sued Apple Inc. for patent infringement in Massachusetts, alleging the iPhone 5, iPad and MacBook Air contain a patent-infringing semiconductor device.

The lawsuit, filed July 2, alleges each of the accused Apple products include a "gallium nitride thin film semiconductor device" that is claimed in a Boston University patent. The university asserted the same patent in a lawsuit brought earlier this year against Apple rival Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.
