Just Stick To The Policy, Fla. High Court Tells Judges

Law360, New York (July 9, 2013, 7:41 PM EDT) -- The Florida Supreme Court held last week that judges should side with policyholders if insurance policies are ambiguous, correcting the many courts that have misinterpreted Florida law and allowed insurers to submit additional evidence to clarify imprecise policy language.

The high court's 4-3 decision against Washington National Insurance Corp. clarified that under Florida law, courts should interpret unclear policy in the policyholder's favor without considering outside evidence.
