Debt Collector To Pay $3.2M Over FTC's Phone Call Claims

Law360, Chicago (July 9, 2013, 3:19 PM EDT) -- A debt collector will pay a $3.2 million civil penalty to settle the Federal Trade Commission's allegations that it harassed consumers with excessive and improper phone calls, the largest fine the FTC has ever obtained from a third-party debt collector, the agency said Tuesday.

In a complaint it lodged on Monday the FTC accused Expert Global Solutions Inc. and its subsidiaries — the world's biggest debt collection operation, according to the agency — of violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Federal Trade Commission...
