DOE Floats Energy Conservation Regs For Computers, Servers

Law360, New York (July 12, 2013, 6:46 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Energy Department said Friday in a pair of Federal Register notices that it would, for the first time, propose energy conservation standards for computers and computer servers after determining that the products are covered under federal energy conservation requirements.

The DOE said it has tentatively determined that computers — including desktops, portables and workstations — and computer servers — which provide services and manage networked resources for devices including computers and wireless devices — qualify as covered products under the Energy Policy and Conservation...
