Fla. Senator Looks To Curb Unauthorized Data Access

Law360, New York (July 11, 2013, 8:47 PM EDT) -- A Florida state senator said Wednesday that he was planning to propose legislation in the upcoming session that would enhance the monitoring of consumer data shared with third parties and require consumers to be notified if law enforcement has accessed their information without a warrant.

Citing recent privacy breaches that impacted the state's prescription drug monitoring database and student records at a local college, Sen. Jeff Brandes, R-St. Petersburg, said that more needed to be done to protect consumer information from unauthorized access by third parties....
