EU Officials Raid Ship Inspection Companies

Law360, New York (January 30, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Commission announced Wednesday that it had raided a number of ship classification companies, as well as the headquarters of an industry association of such companies, in response to suspicions about anti-competitive business practices.

Ship classification services certify that ships have complied with rules governing their design and maintenance. The commission said that the companies may have broken European Union rules on fair business practices by colluding to minimize competition between them.
