Valero Plans $700M Methanol Plant At La. Refinery

Law360, New York (July 12, 2013, 3:13 PM EDT) -- Valero Energy Corp. on Thursday said it will build a methanol facility at its Louisiana refinery that could cost up to $700 million, as it looks to take advantage of the U.S. natural gas boom and become a global market leader in methanol production.

The petrochemical plant will be built at Valero's refinery in St. Charles, La., the San Antonio-based company said. The project is designed to boost the energy company's methanol production capacity at the refinery to 1.6 million tons per year.
