New Tuna-Labeling Rules Comply With WTO Ruling, US Says

Law360, New York (July 12, 2013, 2:25 PM EDT) -- U.S. trade officials said Friday that new regulations for dolphin-safe tuna announced earlier in the week had fully complied with a World Trade Organization ruling that found previous rule were unfair to Mexican fisherman, a day after Mexican claims that they didn't do enough.

The WTO found in May 2012 that U.S. “dolphin-friendly” labeling rules put Mexico at a competitive disadvantage in the market for tuna products, and the National Marine Fisheries Service released new rules Tuesday aimed at bringing the U.S. into compliance.
