EU Group Urges Caution On Tough New Tobacco Laws

Law360, New York (July 12, 2013, 6:07 PM EDT) -- One day after a key committee in the European Parliament advanced controversial regulations on tobacco, a European Union governmental advisory group on Thursday warned lawmakers that the new rules could have negative economic effects.

The European Economic and Social Committee — a government-run body of industry stakeholders, labor unions and other interest groups — said the proposed revisions to Europe's Tobacco Products Directive could have “serious consequences for jobs, the economy and tax revenues.”
